SUMMER PROGRAM

MYONGJI UNIVERSITY, KOREA

Myongji proudly presents its unique short-term (3-week) Korean language and culture program, specifically designed for foreigners who want to learn the Korean language in real life situations through a variety of firsthand contacts with its culture. While most Korean language programs for foreigners consist almost entirely of classroom lectures, Myongji's program emphasizes practical 'real life' training, which will ultimately lead participants to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the Korean culture and customs. Two tracks, Basic and Intermediate, are offered to meet the needs of participants depending on their prior level of exposure to the Korean language and culture.

LANGUAGE AND CULTURE CLASSES

A. Basic Korean*: A beginner level introduction to the Korean writing system and some basic grammar along with survival conversation skills; meets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 09:00-12:00  (a total of 30 hours of instruction)
B. Intermediate Korean*:
An intermediate course for those who have some basic knowledge of Korean; classroom activities emphasize socio-cultural communicative skills as well as reading and writing skills; meets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 09:00-12:00  (a total of 30 hours of instruction)
C. Korean History and Culture**:
meets every Tuesday 09:00-12:00 (a total of 8 hours of instruction); a brief survey of Korean history from its prehistorical origin till the modern age as well as some important cultural characteristics of the Korean people
* Participants can choose either Basic Korean or Intermediate Korean depending on their level of competence   in Korean. (Placement tests will be given at the date of arrival.)
** Students from both Basic and Intermediate Korean classes will be merged for the Korean History and Culture     class on Tuesdays.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Another feature of Myongji's Korean language program is the diverse extracurricular activities where participants can mingle with various groups of local students. Participants can choose a club of their own interests for afternoon activities, where they can learn and get the gist of Korea, building up a true friendship with the local community.

  Club Activities Available:

First and foremost is the teaching assistant aspect of our Korean language program. Full-time teaching assistants assigned to each group of foreign students will spend 24 hours with the program participants (lodging in the same dormitory as the participants)

attending to all of the students' needs, providing advice, care and assistance around the clock. Our teaching assistants are available even on weekends to provide full support to participants on their weekend trips to the many cultural sites across the country.
